New Competence Center to coordinate worldwide activities - regional structure makes it easier for Schenker to stay in touch with customers and the market Schenker strengthening project business worldwide Whether it is a case of shipping of a massive 'yankee' cylinder by rail and ship to the location in the USA where it will be installed, of moving a hydroelectric power station from Croatia to India, wind power plants from Germany to Japan, locomotives to Hong Kong or drilling equipment for the Gotthard tunnel - for decades Schenker has been one of the leading suppliers in the world for global project and plant business. With its own worldwide product management, Schenker is now optimizing the structure of such business and offers customers from industry and commerce even a more personalized service in dealing with their projects. "In numerous contacts with customers, we found that specifically in the area of project and plant logistics there was still the requirement for improvement," explains Dr Thomas C. Lieb, as the member of Schenker AG's Management Board responsible both for air and sea freight and for project business. "Project business is a very interesting market, which needs special expertise. The Management Board of Schenker AG therefore decided to set up a corporate product management system. As our Competence Center in this business field, it will look after such matters as services, working out of routes and contractual negotiations, and render support to our subsidiaries all over the world." In addition, Schenker is also creating a corresponding regional structure for Europe, America and Asia. This will enable the company to stay close to its customers and to the market developments. For decades Schenker has played a pioneering role in international project and plant logistics. As early as in the twenties of the last century the company was involved in the construction of big power stations. Schenker has recently introduced a new product, SCHENKERprojects. This enables to offer a special range of services in this field, with a standardized brand presentation worldwide. The special focus is on project shipments, cargoes that cannot be carried by container, and other associated activities. Last September, in the context of the Asia Logistics Awards, Schenker was honored as "Project Forwarder of the Year". With annual sales of 6.9 billion euros, 38,000 employees and about 1,100 offices around the world, the Stinnes subsidiary Schenker is one of the world's leading providers of integrated logistics services, offering land transport, air and sea freight as well as comprehensive logistics solutions and global supply chain management from a single source. Stinnes is a Deutsche Bahn AG company.
