ABN AMRO today attended the launch and was a signatory to Hong Kong's first corporate social responsibility (CSR) charter. ABN AMRO signs Hong Kong's first ever Corporate Social Responsibility Charter Supported by Community Business, a non-profit organization that promotes corporate social responsibility, ABN AMRO has signaled its leadership in the important and growing realm of sustainable development by publicly demonstrating its commitment to incorporating CSR practices into its organisational strategies and operations related to the workplace, market place and community in Hong Kong. Commenting on the launch, David Cross, ABN AMRO Country Operating Officer for Greater China said: "We are very proud to be part of a very tangible commitment to developing sustainable development in Hong Kong." "By signing this charter we have agreed to not only integrate CSR into our business strategy and operations but also provide leadership whilst engaging with our stakeholders and other organisations on these issues," Mr Cross continued. Since 2003, ABN AMRO has published its Sustainability Report simultaneously with its Financial Report, presenting what it believes to be a balanced and fair presentation of the bank's economic, environmental and social performance. As sustainability covers a wide spectrum of issues, the company focuses on five key areas: * Being accountable and transparent * Delivering responsible financial services * Being a great place to work * Supporting local communities * Minimising impact from business operations As proof of ABN AMRO's ongoing commitment to leadership in this area, it was recently selected as a market leader in their sector in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) 2005. The Dow Jones Sustainability Index looks at economic, environmental and social aspects of companies. For the third year, ABN AMRO has been awarded the leading position in the European banking sector when judged on its corporate sustainability performance. Mr. Cross added, "We are always pursuing ways we can translate our successes in Europe to our practices in Asia. We realise that operating in a city like Hong Kong where the infrastructure for sustainable development practices is not as advanced as in other countries presents its own unique challenges."
