AREVA T&D’s e-terra platform 2.3 and e-terrahabitat 5.5 launch with support for MICROSOFT Windows 2003 for 64-Bit Itanium-based Systems AREVA’s T&D division, a leading provider of products, systems and services to the electric transmission and distribution industry, announces the launch of e-terra platform 2.3™ and e-terrahabitat 5.5™ and support of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for 64-Bit Itanium-based Systems. Support for Microsoft’s Windows Server 2003 for 64-Bit Itanium-based systems, in addition to the 32-bit version already supported, reinforces AREVA T&D’s commitment to e-terra platform security, stability and scalability. “One of the distinct advantages of supporting our applications on this 64-bit version of Windows Server 2003 is our ability to deliver our energy management solutions on the Intel Itanium 2 hardware platform, which delivers a higher level of scalability and is more cost effective than many other hardware architectures,” says Larry Cochrane, VP of Research & Development for AREVA T&D’s Automation and Information Systems Business Unit. AREVA T&D’s e-terra platform for Windows Server 2003 for 64-Bit Itanium-based systems allows larger power system models on a Windows platform than had previously been possible. Older versions of the software would have required customer investment in Tru64 UNIX or expensive Alpha hardware. Now, a much more cost effective solution is available. “Support for the 64-bit Itanium-based systems version of Windows Server 2003 is an important step forward for us,” remarked Laurent Demortier, Executive Vice President for AREVA T&D’s Automation and Information Systems Business Unit. “We are very pleased to take the lead in supporting Microsoft technologies that meet market requirements for the utility industry in terms of security, scalability and cost.” Don Richardson, director, Microsoft’s Manufacturing Industry Unit, said: “AREVA T&D is an excellent addition to Microsoft’s independent software vendor ecosystem, and we look forward to continued collaboration with them in delivering mission-critical solutions to the utilities industry. We believe that AREVA T&D's support of both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2003 represents a strong endorsement of the value that Microsoft brings to this space.” More about AREVA T&D With manufacturing facilities in over 40 countries and a sales network in over 100, AREVA offers customers technological solutions for nuclear power generation and electricity transmission and distribution.
