Imports and Exports of Foreign Investment Enterprises Accounted for 80% Of Total Imports and Exports in Tianjin

According to Tianjin Customs statistics, in January through August, total imports and exports of Tianjin amounted to US$26.38 billion, of which imports and exports by foreign investment enterprises were US$2.128 billion, accounting for 80.7% of total imports and exports of the City.

As for US$21.28 billion imports and exports by foreign investment enterprises, US$10.37 billion were exports and US$10.91 were imports, up by 51.5% and 52.7% respectively compared with the same period of last year. In the first 8 months, Tianjin invited 739 FDI projects, up by 16.7% on a year-on-year basis. FDI commitment were US$3.902 billion and actual use were US$1.654 billion, up by 54.7% and 31.2% respectively. In the whole year of 2004, it was predicted that Tianjin's FDI commitment were US$5.2 billion and paid-in investment were US$2.5 billion, both increasing by more than 50%.

Up this day, 100 World Top 500 enterprises invested in Tianjin with more than 250 projects, and investment exceeded US$6.7 billion. Regarding to import and export commodities, exports of machinery and electronic products were the most with the biggest growth rate. Main trading partners of Tianjin were USA, Japan, Korea and EU etc. In the first 8 months, Tianjin's foreign trade with the 4 partners totally reached US$18.05 billion, accounting for 68.4% of total imports and exports of Tianjin in the same period.
