Uhde to build turnkey plant for PCK refinery in Schwedt, Germany The German refining company, PCK Raffinerie GmbH, has commissioned Uhde with the design and construction of a turnkey plant for the etherification of light naphtha with bioethanol in Schwedt, Germany, around 100km north-east of Berlin. The contract includes the engineering, supply of all material and equipment, construction management, commissioning supervision and training of the operating personnel. The contract is worth some 25 million euro. The plant, which will have an annual capacity of almost one million tonnes of high-quality light naphtha, will be based on a process licensed by the Finnish company Neste Jacobs Oy. It is scheduled to come on-stream in September 2006. The light naphtha produced will be used at the refinery as a blending component for the production of modern environment-friendly gasoline. The new plant will raise the octane number of the fuel component by almost two points and considerably increase the percentage of replenishable feedstocks or renewable energy sources contained in the fuel. Uhde is a company in the Technologies segment of the ThyssenKrupp Group and has a workforce of more than 4,200 employees worldwide. The company's activities focus on the design and construction of chemical and other industrial plants in the following fields: refining technologies, plants for fertilisers, organic intermediates, polymers and synthetic fibres, electrolysis plants, gas technologies, plants for oil, coal and residue gasification, coke plant technologies and pharmaceuticals. PCK Raffinerie GmbH is a company of the mineral oil companies Ruhr Oel GmbH, Shell Deutschland Oil GmbH and AET-Raffinerie-beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH (a company jointly owned by Total Deutschland GmbH and AGIP Deutschland GmbH). It processes 11 million tonnes of crude oil annually, i.e. approximately 10 percent of Germany's entire processing capacity, or, to put it in more comprehensible terms, around every tenth tonne of crude used in Germany is processed in Schwedt.
