Textile and Clothing Exports Saw Steady Growth in the First Quarter According to Customs, total export and import of textiles and clothing amounted to US$ 22.855b in the first quarter, up 22.18% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 9.53% of the total export and import value nationwide. Export of textiles and clothing totaled US$ 19.254b, up 24.94%, accounting for 16.64% of the total export, of which textile export was US$ 7.9191b, a rise of 26.69% while clothing export US$ 12.063b, increased by 23.92%. Total imports were US$ 3.601b, up by 9.28%, taking up 2.9% of the total import. The total surplus reached US$ 15.653b in textile and clothing trade in the first quarter. Japan, HK and US ranked the first three among major countries and regions for textiles and clothing exports in the Jan-Mar period. Total export to those Japan, HK and US hit US$ 9.228b, a share of 47.93% to the total export. Textile and clothing export to Japan amounted to US$ 3.695b, HK US$ 3.335b, and USA US$ 2.918b, respectively up 13.73%, 10.20% and 23.02%. In the period of Jan-Mar, textile and clothing export under conventional trade totaled US$ 12.655b, increased by 26.52%. Textile export under conventional trade was US$ 5.021b, up by 26.39%; clothing US$ 7.634b, up 26.60%.
