Definiens and P.A.L.M. Microlaser Technologies enter into strategic cooperation Definiens, a leading provider of high-content image analysis software, today announced that it has signed a partnership agreement with P.A.L.M. Microlaser Technologies to cooperate in developing and marketing an integrated high-content image analysis and laser microdissection system. P.A.L.M. Microlaser Technologies AG is a leading supplier of micromanipulation systems using its proprietary, worldwide patented Laser Pressure Catapulting technology. For many biological analyses in molecular biology, in genetic and proteomic research, in oncology, pathology and in many other areas in biological science, microdissection systems are more and more a tool of choice. With the PALM® MicroBeam large cell areas, single cells or sub-cellular particles can be captured out of tissue sections without any mechanical contact. The technology of the laser catapult allows the transportation of the targeted material into a collecting device only with the force of light hence eliminating contamination or infection risks. Due to the purity of the captured material all subsequent analyses are possible without the impairment through impurities and contaminations. Definiens Cellenger® is a software for powerful automated high-content analysis of tissues and cellular assays that enable the reliable and fully automated extraction and detailed analysis of structures of interest even in complex image data and tasks. The extracted objects are then counted or morphometrically measured. In contrast to a more qualitative, global assessment of an image, as is the case with a visual analysis, a detailed, quantitative description of, e.g. tissue substructures, can now be obtained. The combination of both technologies, each leading in its segment, will allow the automatic extraction and detailed analysis of structures of interest, followed by immediate computer-controlled laser microdissection and laser catapulting to retrieve the material for subsequent (e.g. molecular) analysis. The high degree of automation is expected to provide significant savings of time and cost as well as quantitative information facilitating reliable characterization of the material of interest. "This partnership with Definiens represents a further important step towards developing our solutions with complementary products from industry leading strategic partners,” said Reinhard Müller-Späth, member of the board at P.A.L.M. Microlaser Technologies AG. “Cellenger further extends the capabilities of our PALM® MicroBeam product suite as an open platform for cell biology experimentation." „Partnering with fellow innovators such as P.A.L.M. we offer a highly comprehensive solution to our joint customers which will bring considerable time savings in the dissection of tissue assays,“ adds Ralph Humberg, Director of Channel Business for Definiens AG. „We are confident that P.A.L.M.’s collaboration with Definiens will allow us to establish Cellenger as a tool of choice for image analysis in the field of microlaser technology.“ Kontaktinformationen: Definiens AG Trappentreustrasse 1 80339 Munich Germany phone: +49-(0)89-2311800 fax: +49-(0)89-23118090 info@definiens.com
