Infineon Joins Fight against AIDS and Becomes Member of the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS

Infineon Technologies (FSE/NYSE: IFX), the world’s sixth-largest semiconductor company, is the first semiconductor manufacturer to join the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GBC). The coalition, founded in 1997 and based in New York, is committed to increasing the role of business in supporting international efforts to extend the availability of AIDS treatment in developing countries. In addition, the business sector is now developing HIV/AIDS workplace programs, providing workers and their families with access to HIV prevention, testing, education and care. GBC is financed solely from fees and donations by its members. It currently brings together around 130 international companies on a private-public partnership basis and operates mainly in Africa and the recently affected countries of Eastern Europe, in the Russian Federation and in Asia. The GBC members deploy their marketing and communications expertise and logistical skills in regions affected by HIV with the aim of raising awareness about AIDS and supporting education programs. Campaigns launched at member company locations educate employee about the dangers of the disease and about infection routes. Beyond the boundaries of their own premises, the members also run programs to expand the member base. Jürgen Schrempp, Chairman and CEO of DaimlerChrysler, has been Chairman of the GBC since 2002.

“By joining the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS we want to assume the socio-political responsibility to enlist in the fight against AIDS and will support the organization in its information and prevention activities in our regions“, declared Dr. Ulrich Schumacher, President and CEO of Infineon Technologies. Infineon will also take part in recruiting new GBC members in Asia, particularly in China and India, where the GBC has only been poorly represented to date. Currently, 42 million people worldwide are infected with the HIV virus. You can find further information about the GBC at www.businessfightsaids.org
